1. Johnson makes toy cars. He wants to make 1,500. Johnson can make 18 cars a day. He has already made 492. How many days will it take him to get to 1,500?
2. Bill and his 3 friends read 55 books each for the year. Each book had an average of 320 pages. How many pages did they all read in total that year?
3. Mary is having a birthday party. She invited 14 friends. Mary made 190 cookies. She wants to share them at her party but also wants to save 22 for her mother and father. How many cookies will each person get at the party?
4. Eli was giving away his baseball cards. He had 624 cards to give away and 12 friends to give them to. How many cards would each friend receive?

Answer

  1. Johnson needs to make 1,500 - 492 = 1,008 more cars. At 18 cars per day, it will take him 1,008 / 18 = 56 days to reach his goal.

  2. Bill and his 3 friends read a total of 4 x 55 = 220 books. At 320 pages per book, they read 220 x 320 = 70,400 pages in total.

  3. Mary has 190 - 22 = 168 cookies to share with her 14 friends. Including herself, that's 15 people. Each person will get 168 / 15 = 11.2 cookies. Since cookies cannot be divided into fractions, each person will get 11 cookies, with some remaining.

  4. Eli has 624 cards to give to 12 friends. Each friend will receive 624 / 12 = 52 cards.
