Find the solution to the system of equations. x − 3y − z = 6 x + y = −5 x + z = −1 x = □, y = □, z = □

Find the solution to the system of equations.
x − 3y − z = 6
x + y = −5
x + z = −1
x = □, y = □, z = □

Answer

From the second and third equations, y = −5 − x and z = −1 − x. Substitute into the first equation:

x − 3(−5 − x) − (−1 − x) = 6
5x + 16 = 6
x = −2.

Then y = −5 − (−2) = −3 and z = −1 − (−2) = 1.

x = −2, y = −3, z = 1.
